During the self-reflective journey of personal growth and Sergeant rank iterations constituting Call of Duty’s multiplayer, players have historically connected via a matchmaking system that used their regions as the sole basis for grouping together soldiers with similar connection speeds. In a tweet sent earlier this week, Treyarch Design Director David Vonderhaar revealed that Black Ops 2 deviates from standard procedure and matches players via ping and latency exclusively. It is in and being tested. Not region based anymore. October 25, Speedier sessions and reduced drop-outs should arise as a result of the new system—in theory, at least. Never underestimate the incoherent thrashings of a year-old server-star in full swing. Another equally neat perk confirmed by Treyarch: dedicated PC hosting.
Black Ops 2 technical review
One of the most common questions I get asked is how to rank up from the lowly Iron rank to the top two per cent of players in Masters — so here are two YouTube videos that take a look at how League Play works and below that are some of the basics. Getting into the Masters division top 2 per cent of players in the world is a challenge and a half, whether you play in the Championship or Team Deathmatch series. So I decided to share some of the tips other players have suggested to try and help you get into the elusive club.
Iron division bottom 20 per cent of players. Bronze division next 20 per cent of players. Silver division next 20 per cent of players.
Treyarch’s David Vondehaar has revealed that ‘Black Ops 2’ will not be using the typical region-based approached to matchmaking, but instead.

Call of Duty: Black Op 2 Patch Details for PS3, 360 and PC
In the latest from Treyarc’s very own head designers tweets, the game will use latency and ping to coordinate matchmaking for Black Ops 2.
After releasing a big patch on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox platforms earlier this week, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 developer Treyarch has also released a special update on the PC platform that brings improvements to the multiplayer and Zombies modes, as well as to the matchmaking system in particular. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was released back in November and, since then, millions of players have engaged in its top-notch multiplayer mode, either in the competitive one or the cooperative Zombies experience.
In order to keep things as trouble-free as possible, developer Treyarch has released a variety of updates for the game across the PC, PS3, Xbox , and Wii U platforms. The latest update has just hit the PC version in two waves, one aimed at the multiplayer and Zombies modes, and one aimed at the matchmaking system. Check out the contents of the two incremental updates below, via the Call of Duty forums. Though a compelling single player element and engaging cooperative modes like Zombies have always been subheadings on the calling card of Call of Duty , the franchise’s real bread and butter is its multiplayer. Beyond keeping players engaged for dozens of hours upon end, the multiplayer helps prolong the length of the title long after the hour campaign has been completed.
However, with this year’s new Call of Duty , Black Ops 2 , hitting store shelves in just a few short weeks, a pretty substantial change is looming in the horizon. No, we’re not talking about the new features — like futuristic weaponry — that Treyarch is cooking up for gamers, but a new back-end change that should further improve the quality of that fan-favorite experience. As confirmed by Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar over Twitter , Black Ops 2 multiplayer gamers will be matched with one another based on ping and latency.
In the past, Call of Duty has used a player’s region to determine what type of opponents they should be teamed up with and against, but for Black Ops 2 that will no longer be the case. Instead, this highly anticipated shooter and direct sequel to the first Black Ops will make sure that players with a strong connection aren’t forced to do battle against gamers whose connection can barely play the Black Ops 2 trailer.
Moreover, this should presumably alleviate inherent lag-based problems gamers have had with Call of Duty since Modern Warfare — problems that on the PC-side can be correct with dedicated servers. It is in and being tested. Not region based anymore. While Vonderhaar would not outright explain how this new ping and latency-based player matching would work, we hope that it can provide the most lag-free experience to those gamers who pay hand over fist for a solid exceptional connection.
That said, the fact that Treyarch needs to announce such a feature suggests they might have been going about it the wrong way in the past, which is disheartening. Or perhaps they are simply trying something new that could go over really well with fans, or blow up in their face. How do you feel about Black Ops 2 opting for a ping and latency based player matching feature?

I feel clans can either make or break BO2 at this point, and before i go any further, MW3’s clan system was a step in the right direction, but the premium feature ruined it. I think i can speak for nearly all cod players when i say, i want to be able to not only rank up and unlock things for myself, but also for my clan.
The clan feature can, if done correctley, add so much to BO2 that other cods never expanded on. I want to list things i feel the BO2 system should do for clans.
-I deleted the bo2 multiplayer then redownloaded it. –Didn’t work. -I checked the MATCHMAKING PROBLEMS. guys, i ve been playing with.
There used to be an era of gaming when what you saw was what you got. If a game was glitchy and broken out of the box, then that is how the game would remain. Nowadays, the majority of games appear to be released half-baked with slow down issues, game breaking glitches , or save stealing blips making it onto the shelves. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is no different and Activision have released a first patch for each major platform.
Below is a list of fixes for glitches. None of them relate directly to Black Ops 2’s 4 player co-op mode, but they do impact upon it. The online has been improved for a better connection, which will hopefully prevent you from being kicked out of a game. The PS3 patch is probably the best news, as the matchmaking is being improved making co-op meet ups easier to handle. The full details across , PS3 and PC can be found below. Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Nuketown Zombies DLC Story Detailed, Public Matchmaking Explained
In the last of many features revealed before Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 ‘s November 13 launch, we return to the all-important multiplayer. Though hardcore shooter fans can throw themselves into the competitive arena and find fun, players with less skill often feel intimidated by the mode. Spawning and being beaten into the ground, as it turns out, isn’t any fun. There’s a lot Treyarch wants to do to address that feeling, such as offering tiered League matches and improving matchmaking; however, that can’t guarantee things will draw people into a world they may despise out of intimidation.
Combat Training To increase confidence levels of players who see more Kill Cam than game, Treyarch has focused its attention on Combat Training, the mode meant to introduce players to multiplayer basics against AI controlled bots. In Black Ops 2 , Combat Training users can earn experience points and level their online soldier in a mode dubbed ‘Boot Camp.
The studio and Activision have released a guide which shows how exactly the public matchmaking works in the game. Sometimes the game places you in a local match or in an international match where people are all from other countries irrespective of the ping, so why does this happen? Proximity does not adhere strictly to city, state or country as seen on a map. Rather, it breaks down into four tiers of geographical region surrounding the player. The query starts in the tier closest to the player and expands from there if it cannot find enough matches.
This step takes the proximity-filtered list and narrows it further to the set of games that fall roughly in the same broad skill range. This is very loose criteria in Public Match and is a broad-stroke filter that avoids games at the extreme ends. Connection quality includes a measure of ping, bandwidth between you and the host, and NAT compatibility. The game attempts to join you to the game with the best connection quality of all possible matches, starting at the top of the list.
